Les Entreprises Marchand products are built to last since we used the best materials in areas deemed strategic, however we recommend periodic maintenance to ensure proper operation and maintain the level of tightness.
1. HARDWARE
The hardware must be cleaned and lubricated to maintain proper operation in the short and long term. The frequency should follow the order of the seasons and the environment where you are located. A basement window is more subject to regular maintenance.
Dust and wind-borne residues make the mecanisms more difficult to operate so that mechanical stress can increase the risk of breakage.
When cleaning, be sure to use a cloth and mild soap without chemicals, such as ammonia and chlorine. The hardware has received in its manufacture a protective treatment that must not be damaged.
1.1 CLEANING
First, open the sash of the windows : tilt-and-turn, single or double door, sliding door. Vacuum to remove dust, dirt and other residues on the slide rails, hinges, evacuation holes at the threshold of the windows and doors on the runners rail and the closing mechanism of the rollers.
IMPORTANT :
Special attention should be paid to keep the canalization at the threshold of your door clean by vacuming up any dirt that can block it through the evacuation nozzles, all year around. It is also recommended to take a garden hose and direct the jet towards the nozzle to clean it perfectly and keep the canalization clean.
1.2 LUBRIFICATION
When the hardware is clean, you can start to lubricate the slides, barrels, hook of the multipoint using white grease. Kleen-Flo or a sewing mill oil, efficient and clean.
On the sealing points, we recommend a wet wipe.
2. SEALING GASKETS
Periodically check your seals as this may cause air and water to seep in.
Check the condition of your weatherstrips by thoroughly inspecting them.
They must remain clean, smooth without tears and flexible.Several seals are not visible and others, by the engineering of doors or windows, must be exposed. Thus these will require increased surveillance.
3. SCREENS
Screens should be stored during the winter to maintain natural air convection and improve circulation to help prevent excessive condensation.
For our tilt-and-turn/Concept 2 it is important to remove all screens during the cold period because these being installed discreetly inside the frame it can hinder a perfect seal.
Before placing screens, it is recommended to clean them with a mild detergent.
4. FINISHING / SURFACE TREATMENT
WOOD:
The durability of the finish varies with exposure to sunlight, ambient humidity in general as well as exposure south and west orientation and around the roads for wooden doors and windows in particular.
The finish used requires regular maintenance by washing with clean water and mild detergent. Especially avoid using a pressure machine that may open gaps causing infiltration under lacquer.
FOR REFINITION :
Clean the surface with a clean damp cloth and allow to dry completely. Sand lighly with a sand paper finish or scoth pad brite for good adhesion. Apply the indicated product to your initial order for a compatibility of finishes.
Allow to dry and inspect it finish has filled all gaps and apply evenly.
INTERIOR WOODWORK :
Interior woodwork should be cleaned with a vacuum cleaner and a damp, clean cloth. Gloss sprays are not recommended.

5. CLEANING THE ALUMINUM
Aluminum is a material that requires only minimal maintenance with great simplicity.
And to keep the original beauty of your windows, some maintenance measures are required.
For optimum maintenance, it is advisable to clean the aluminum 2 to 3 times a year.
Simply wipe a soft towel or sponge with a neutral cleanser or mild soapy solution (Hertel).
As a result : your aluminum will look better and last longer.
PRECAUTIONS:
if you work with a metallic materials near your windows, be careful to remove iron residues that could have been in contact with your windows or doors because of their different electrochemical properties these materials will attack aluminum.
IMPORTANT for new constructions it is imperative to cover the windows when the house is in masonry.
Small damages on the surface of the profiles can be restored with a touchup brush or by a professional with an aerosol. For old surfaces, whose luster is altered by the weather and the sun, it is now possible to have them restored by specialized companies.
6. CLEANING THE GLASS
The cleaning of dirt on the glass as any traces, dust and other deposits is easy to perform using soapy water from commercial cleaners or a mixture of water with vinegar in a ratio of (10 to 1).
STEPS :
• Rinse the glass with water to remove as much dust as possible sand and small rocks that could scratch the surface
• Apply the cleaning solution liberally to the glass
• Rub the wet surface with a soft, clean cloth.
• Wash all seals with the same solution.
7. SUGGESTED MAINTENANCE FREQUENCY
• Clean Glasses / seasons
• Check operation and cold / seasons
• Clean finishes on wood, aluminum and fiberglass / twice a year
• Check sealant joints and repeat annually if necessary.
• Clean and lubricate hardware / 2 times a year.
